Sunset opened March 31, 2007 to become the third branch to be renovated through the Branch Library Improvement Program, the November 2000 ballot measure resoundingly passed by the voters of San Francisco.

Highlights of the Sunset renovation include: Remodeling the downstairs children’s area; adding a program room; new restrooms; a designated teen area; a new after hours book drop; and a variety of seating choices. The historic nuances of the building – terra cotta, windows, woodwork, ceilings, etc. -- will be enhanced and all improvements will be compatible with the original architecture. There will be new furniture, better lighting, and new computers.
