Marina Branch Grand Re-opening August 4th, 2-6 p.m.! News release | printable version
The Marina Branch library closed for renovation on September 2, 2005 and reopened August 4, 2007. Marina is the fourth branch to be renovated through the Branch Library Improvement Program, the November 2000 ballot measure resoundingly passed by the voters of San Francisco. The branch will be seismically safe, more functional, accessible, and technologically updated, while retaining the feel of the original design. Highlights of the Marina renovation include: Constructing an addition at the front of the building with a flexible browsing area for new books, media and periodicals near the information desk; a designated teen area; functional staff work spaces; new restrooms; a new after hours book drop; and a variety of seating choices. The architectural nuances of the building -- windows, brickwork, ceilings, etc. -- will be enhanced and all improvements will be compatible with the original architecture. Marina Closing Party! The Friends of the San Francisco Public Library are raising funds from private donations for new furniture, fixtures, and equipment for the branch library. For information on the Marina neighborhood campaign, contact marian.ctaylor@friendssfpl.org. For more information on the condition of the branch before construction, please see the Marina Branch Facilities Survey. Send comments or questions about this page to blip@sfpl.org |
